Elise Burton began cooking at the age of 12, when her mother stopped. It was either sink or swim.
Self-taught, she developed a true passion for all things culinary but did not initially see it as a future career. While pursuing a Masters degree in a completely different field, Elise began to give cooking lessons in people’s homes to earn extra money. After graduating, she soon realized that the food world beckoned. Leaving her job, she enrolled in culinary school to hone her skills.
Elise soon found herself working as a food writer for the innovative Toronto website www.thejewelsoffood.com (2003-2006), as well as writing articles for several local publications including “Where”, “Metro”, “24 Hours” and “Dining Out Magazine”. During this exciting time she was able to learn all about the local dining scene, food trends, interesting products, new techniques and great events.
In 2006, Elise had the opportunity to return to teaching cooking. Her fun and eclectic yet relatively simple recipes, along with her vast knowledge of anything food related, have allowed her to develop a large following throughout Toronto and the GTA.
As well as private parties and corporate classes, Elise has taught for Loblaws, Real Canadian Superstores, Longo’s, the LCBO and the Miles Nadal Jewish Community Centre in the Annex. As well, she has made an appearance on Rogers Daytime Show in Durham Region. She is currently branching out into corporate recipe development and media.
In the future, Elise hopes to continue to teach but is also working to take her cooking in other directions such as cookbooks, webcasts, blogs, radio and or television
